When I first started playing boogie at school, people constantly asked me what happened to the sheet music from which I learned everything. My highly esteemed music teacher, Walter Vogl, was the first person who insisted on having the musical notation. Unfortunately, I only had the recordings and my own ears; there were no other reliable alternatives. Even the original authorized Ammons transcriptions turned out to be very poorly written, with two-thirds often left out completely and the rest totally incorrect.

That presented me with a problem; I could play everything by ear but that was of little use to my piano students, so I began to write everything down. I started out writing by hand, then with my old Atari, and today with my PC.
